Hello, all!
Thanks for stopping by my brand new blog 🙂

With the New Year upon us, I figure it’s a great time to start a new hobby – a blog! I’ve always loved reading healthy living blogs (just ask my boyfriend), so why not start one of my own? I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, so I figure this new little venture will be fun to cultivate over the year (and who knows, maybe even years!) Basically, I’m excited to have a venue to share with my family (and Ryan’s if they choose to read) what we are up to since we both live so far away from our respective homes (Me — Cincinnati, Ohio and Ryan — Russellville, Arkansas) and we both have family scattered every which way throughout the country.

I have no real set direction or idea for where I want this blog to go. I just want to have a creative outlet to chronicle things as I live out my day to day life. Knowing me, this probably means a whole lot of talk about my journey in becoming a Public Health professional and obtaining an MPH, my adorable little puppy (Happy) that I am OBSESSED with, my boo Ryan, trips with our respective families, outings and happenings in Charlotte, friends, my work at the YMCA, running and my overall zest for life!

Creating this blog is actually a complete spur of the moment idea for me. In fact, I had an epiphany while out on a run. I realized that I really missed scrapbooking (an activity I took up in high school) and I don’t really have tangible pictures to do that with anymore. I’ve always been a big picture-taker (I studied abroad in Australia for a year in college and took thousands of pictures…literally) and I still take a lot of pictures when I am out and about. And thanks to the new digital craze that has taken over the past decade or so, I haven’t really done anything with the huge collection of pictures I have stored up on my poor computer’s little hard drive. They just sit in sad, boring little folders and don’t receive any attention (sorry, Facebook, I’m so over uploading countless pictures to your website). I cherish those scrapbooks I made in high school, and have always wanted to create more for everything that has happened in my life since then. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to go retro-active on you and post stories about the past 8 years of my life.. that’d be a tad bit on the crazy side). My hope is that from here on forward I’ll be able to use this blog to quench my creative side and share pictures and stories (ahem, happy tales!) with friends and family who live so far away, and of course, new blogger friends and readers! It’ll be neat to have this to look back on years down the road. (I’m a sucker for sentimental things).

Anywho, I’m excited about creating Happy Tales and I think it will only add to my happiness and fulfillment as a person as I share and learn from you guys. I can’t promise I’ll blog every day (I’m still trying to figure out how to balance this whole work/grad school/living life thing) but I really hope to become an active part in the blogworld and “meet” some people who share some of the same sentiments. I know there are tons of you out there, as I’ve been browsing y’alls blogs for months (yes, you can call me a stalker, but I did leave some comments!).

If you want to dive a little deeper and learn more about what makes me tick… check out my FAQ page! Lotsa good stuff to read there.

Have any questions? Feel free to comment away on any of the posts or contact me at happytalesblog@gmail.com

Thanks for stopping by and checking out some of my happy tales!

Hi Allison, and congrats to you on your new blog. I too enjoy reading food blogs, it really inspires me to try new things in food and exercise Blog reading motivates me to continue to live a healthy lifestyle. I also love to be able to “travel” all over the country through other peoples eyes. Anyway, I look forward to checking in with your and Happy over time and see what you guys are up to.

    • Hi Cheryl! Thanks so much for stopping by! I completely agree with you… reading blogs, in a way, opens up the world to me in ways I never knew I could experience! Gives me all sorts of different food and travel ideas. I hope you continue to come back for more!

Hi, I just found your blog via Kath’s. Love little Happy! She looks like a border collie mix, maybe? Thank you for rescuing!

    • Hey there!! Thank you! We love our little Happinator 🙂 The vet thinks she has a lot of border collie in her.. as well as some terrier (due to her small size) and maybe some pug (because of her curlycue tail). I actually just took her to the vet today and she is almost 13 pounds! They say she’s not going to get much bigger, either. Who knows, though… she’s only 6 months!

  3. Hi Allison! Thanks for stopping by my blog…I can’t wait to read more of yours especially with all we have in common! We can get together sometime if you ever want!

  10. Happy is quite the cutie! As a dog-lover, I completely understand why he should be in the title of your blog 🙂

    • Oh yes, Happy has become suuuuuch a big part of my life! I can’t imagine not having her!!! In fact, I cried a few months ago picturing what it would be like for her to be really old one day…and Ryan had to bring me back down to earth and remind me that she’s only 6 months old… Sometimes I get ahead of myself. But yes, she is sooo part of the family!

      • I just had an incoming link from this page today and read your response… Just had to add, I completely understand the imagination wild thing! Sometimes, when I am tired late at night (and maybe hormonal), I will think about them dying and tear up. Husband takes one look at me and says, “You’re thinking about the dogs again, aren’t you? It’s time for bed.”

  17. Your puppy is so cute!! I miss my mom’s dog, Sophie. I lived with her for close to a year, before moving from Florida to Ohio. And I became quite attached to that dog! I keep telling my husband that we need to get a dog, but I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon! 😛
